Officials must put residents’ interests first
Last month the Alpena Planning Commission voted 6-1 to deny a special use permit for an adult recreational use marijuana establishment at 427 W. Campbell Street because it was determined to be, “completely incompatible with other neighboring properties.” It is still completely incompatible with the four adjacent residential properties, as well as the immediate neighborhood where many children live. Yet for some unknown reason, a rehearing has been scheduled for Tuesday, April 12 at 6 p.m. at City Hall. Repeated attempts to discover the specific reason for the rehearing have been made, yet a week has passed without answers. We have dozens of signatures from residents in the immediate area as well as hundreds more on our petition at change.org/NoCampbellCannabis
Visit the website to get more information and add your voice to those of your fellow citizens who are appalled at this inappropriate placement and the business who invested in the property before the permit was even approved. Check for updates on the Citizens Against Campbell Street Cannabis Facebook Page, and please join us at City Hall on April 12 to encourage our public servants to continue to place the interests of the residents over those of the marijuana businesses.
