LANSING – State Rep. Cam Cavitt today welcomed Johannesburg-Lewiston junior Kylie Makowski to the House floor in recognition of being named the winner of Rep. Cavitt’s 2026 Legislator for a Day Art Contest. The contest gives students the opportunity to showcase their talents while crafting pieces that demonstrate the regional beauty and local identity of Northeast Michigan. Makowski was selected out of 10 schools in 6 counties that encompass the 106th House District.

“Through all the great entries in this year’s contest, Kylie had distinguished herself as the clear winner,” said Cavitt (R-Cheboygan). “Her submission captured the distinctive beauty of Northeast Michigan through a very thoughtful approach. The piece evoked a strong connection to the region’s natural environment, and it demonstrated true craftsmanship. The arts are an important part of Michigan’s cultural fabric, and young artists like Kylie show us that the tradition continues to thrive.”
