The spotlight belonged to our retirees
Our school district is facing a critical recall of three school board members who consistently prioritize their personal agendas over the best interests of our students, staff, and community.
If anyone needs further proof of this self-serving behavior, look no further than the recent district retirement dinner.
The evening was meant to celebrate the dedicated retirees, but one of the board members under recall, Eric Lawson, hijacked the spotlight. As president of the board, Lawson was asked to say a few words. Instead of honoring the individuals who’ve given decades of service to Alpena’s children, he spent his time spewing a self-absorbed monologue, detailing his own teaching experiences and past accomplishments.
By shifting the focus to himself, Lawson undermined the spirit of the event and robbed the retirees of their well-deserved moment of recognition.
Sadly, this inappropriate display was not an isolated incident; it mirrors the selfish, dismissive attitude Lawson, Sarah Costain, and Monica Dziesinski have repeatedly shown at district meetings. They refuse to listen to teachers, students, or the community they were elected to serve.
Calling out this behavior is not nitpicking. It’s connecting the dots to reveal a clear picture of the disregard these board members have for public education and our community.
The public needs to be aware of this pattern. We deserve leadership that leads with humility, respects our staff, and puts our kids first. It’s time for a change! #SignTheRecall
