Only issue at stake is survival of democracy

I have voted in every election beginning in 1964 — national, state, and local, general, primary, and special. I would have voted in 1960, but 18-year-olds were not enfranchised. Remember when they tried to convince us the slippery slope was a myth? Well, it’s not and Proposal 3 is a grim reminder of the evil and depravity that lies in store for our children if we stand passively by…and make no mistake, it’s much closer than we think. Where’s the coverage of Peninsula Fund?

The current investigation of alleged irregularities in “The Peninsula Fund” has been called one of the biggest potential scandals in Michigan history, Current candidate for the Michigan legislature, Cam Cavitt, was an officer of the fund during the time of alleged improprieties. Yet I have read no coverage of the ongoing investigation here. Cavitt claims to have been unaware of the problems. Vote for the best candidate, not the party

Commissioner Robert Adrian has served as an Alpena County commissioner for 10 years. The only Democrat on the board, Bob has been elected by his fellow commissioners as chairman for the past three years. Prior to his retirement, Bob worked for the Alpena City Fire Department for 36 years and at his retirement held the position of assistant chief. Politics doesn’t affect Bob’s decisions. In the Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 edition, in the article titled Several Competitive Races Across Alcona County, written by James Andersen, Assistant Managing Editor, it states “Turek could not be reached for comment”. I can say this is completely false. I have never received a call from either the Alpena News or James Andersen himself. I have had a business in Alcona County for 22 years so my personal contact information as well as my business contact information is completely visible to even the most beginning reporter.
