Trump dominates Northeast Michigan’s vote

ALPENA — There were no surprises during Tuesday’s presidential primary on who voters in Northeast Michigan wanted to square off during the presidential election in November.

Former President Donald Trump dominated the Republican field and Joe Biden easily claimed the top Democrat spot. If that trend continues nationally, it will set up a rematch of the 2020 presidential election, which Biden won narrowly.

In Alpena County, Trump was the top vote-getter receiving 3,451, while Nikki Haley finished a distant second by collecting 953 votes. President Biden received 1,711 to lead the Democratic candidates.

The other Republicans on the ballot had already removed themselves from the race to the Republican nominee.

In Presque Isle County, the story was the same, as Trump received 1,631 votes and Biden earned 719.

The results in Montmorency County were the same, as Trump prevailed in the Republican race with 1,594 votes and Biden topped the leaderboard for the Democrats with 472 votes.

In Alcona County, Trump received 1,715 votes and Biden collected 549 votes.

The results are unofficial until each county’s board of canvassers certifies election results on Wednesday.

The presidential election is on November 5.
