BASEBALL
Hillman splits with Mio
The Tigers split with Mio on Monday, dropping the opener 2-1 and winning the second game 6-2.
AJ Jones threw five solid innings for Hillman (1-1) in the opener, allowing two runs on two hits with 10 strikeouts.
Zak Kazyaka scored a run and had a hit for Hillman; London Achatz and Aden Sobeck each had a hit and Owen Moulton had a sacrifice fly for an RBI.
Sobeck earned the win in Game 2, allowing a hit and striking out three in three innings. Kazyaka scored twice, Adam Ruthko, Achatz and Trenton Taratuta each scored a run, Sobeck singled and Jones had a single and scored a run.
SOFTBALL
Posen opens with split
PELLSTON– The Vikings opened the season with a split on Monday against Pellston, losing the opener 8-7 and winning the nightcap 20-4.
Posen (1-1) led 7-4 in the top of the fifth inning of the opener, but the Hornets scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to win the game.
Makayla Kamyszek was 1-for-3 with a home run and three RBI for Posen; Lizzy Romel was 1-for-2 with three runs scored and three stolen bases. Kamyszek threw four innings, allowing four earned runs, six hits and struck out four.
An 11-run fifth inning spurred Posen to a win in the nightcap. Romel threw five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and four walks.
Romel was 3-for-4 with three runs scored and two stolen bases; Faith Cousins was 3-for-4 with four runs scored, three RBI, a triple and a double; Ava Wesner was 4-for-5 with five RBI, a home run and double and Jocelyn Hincka was 3-for-4 with three runs scored, two RBI and two doubles.
Posen is scheduled to host Pickford on Thursday.
