New book by local author comes out

Local author Christine Johnson will do a reading of her latest book Friday from 5:30-7 p.m. at Olivet Book and Gift in downtown Alpena.

The just published inspirational historical romance is titled “Mail Order Mommy.” Nursing a broken heart, Amanda Porter had answered a frontier mail-order bride ad placed by Garrett Decker’s children – only to find the groom-to-be didn’t want a wife.

The widowed bachelor she hoped to marry does need a housekeeper though, and taking the job is Amanda’s only option. But his adorable children are determined she’ll be their mother by Christmas.

His wife’s betrayal and tragic death demolished Garrett’s life. Now he can’t even look at another woman, let alone marry Amanda, who resembles his first love – even if she does make his house feel like a home, filling it again with laughter and his children’s smiles.

But with his daughter convinced Amanda is the perfect mother, will Garrett realize she’s also his perfect match?

Johnson enjoys creating stories that bring history to life while exploring the characters’ spiritual journeys. Though Alpena is her home base, she and her husband also spend time exploring the Florida Keys and other interesting locations.

Among previous books she has written is “Mail Order Mix-Up” as the first installment in the Boom Town Brides series. Additionally, her The Dressmaker’s Daughters series includes “Groom by Design,” “Suitor by Design” and “Love by Design.” All are published under the Harlequin Love Inspired Historical imprint.

She has published a number of other books as well, including Honor Redeemed” and “Love’s Rescue,” both through Revell, a division of Baker Publishing Group

Johnson’s book event on Friday will include a reading and chat with visitors. The Christmas-themed book will be available for sale at Olivet.
