Updated waste management plans good thing

Soon, the Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes, and Energy (EGLE) will announce that it’s time to update the County Solid Waste Management Plans. Earth Day was the day before my 15th birthday and, finally, the state of Michigan will be seriously moving away from a garbage for land approach to responsibly and properly managing the treasures we throw away. The new plans will not provide for new landfill siting and will instead focus on and require a materials recovery approach. Organics will be removed and composted into rich soil. Curbside recycling pick-up will be ...

We have to stop Iranian terrorism immediately

Ali Khamenei of Iran has denied any involvement in the Hamas attack on Israel, even the U.S.intel agencies have stated that Iran officials were “surprised” by the attack. Guess what? I don’t buy that load of malarkey for a nanosecond. Ali Khamenei knew exactly when and how Hamas was going to unleash their barbaric rampage against the nation of Israel and he and the government of Iran are complicit in the horrible terrorist attack. The state-sponsored acts of terrorism from Iran and its supreme leader need to end immediately … whatever it takes. MIKE DOTSCH, Alpena

Biden trying to pull a fast one on immigration

Anti-American Joe Biden has pulled another fast one on the American public! If you think that if the Republicans dominate the legislature in D.C. in 2024 that all illegals will be deported, Biden is ahead of you, as, according to a story that leaked out in the latest issue of the American Free Press, Biden and his administration are currently building entire communities to house hordes of illegals. One area is Colony Ridge located about 40 miles north of Houston, Texas in Liberty County. Some government officials deny it. Other communities are planned in the suburbs of other American ...

Time to say ‘stop’ to out-of-control spending

The Sept. 30 Alpena News contained a letter by one of its loyal Democrat subscribers with the title ‘Shutting down the government is not acceptable’. The letter noted that a shutdown would affect the Agriculture Department’s SNAP and WIC programs, eliminate funding for Title X grants for ‘family planning’ clinics (abortion clinics), cut Head Start programs, freeze childcare assistance, and cut Title I grants to schools serving low income or ‘disadvantaged’ background students. Another Continuing Resolution (CR) postponed any responsible action on a budget for 45 days. I ...

A novel solution to our country’s divisions

I have a solution for the divisions that are crippling our country. Let’s begin by dismissing all the court cases pending against Donald Trump. Let’s admit that his total asses are what he claims them to be. Then, let’s assist him in purchasing the Candian province of Nunavut. There he can set up his own monarchy where devoted followers can crown him King Donald the First. Such a move would allow millions of Trumpers to emigrate to a kingdom where there would be no governmental interference. Taxes would be nearly non-existent because there’d be no super-highways to build or ...

Shutting down the gov’t is not acceptable

2 in 3 Americans believe it’s never ok to shut down the federal government. Depending on its length, a government shutdown could impact lots of programs. Everything from student loan and nutrition assistance hotlines to pay for government workers (including those in the military) to CDC medical trials. The House Republican budget proposal would: ∫ Cut the fruit and vegetable benefit in the Agriculture Department’s Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), which provides food assistance and other services to pregnant and postpartum adults, ...
