Protect immigrants on this Caregivers Day

This National Caregivers Day (Feb. 16), let’s make sure we recognize the critical role of immigrants in our care workforce, our community, the economy, and, most importantly, in our families. Our population is aging at a faster rate than we’re able to hire new home-care workers. Which means we’re now facing a huge care workforce shortage. That means our elderly or disabled loved ones could go without care if we don’t address this! Already, immigrant caregivers make up 27% of the direct care workforce — including home health aides, child care workers, and nursing assistants. ...

Dear Sirs/Madams: You’re being played. America has a two-party political system that has rendered itself into having presidential elections that are all about winning. Karamo is the grassroots party chairwoman

Donald Trump putting his stamp of approval on Pete Hoekstra and undermining the actual legally seated Republican state chair, Christina Karamo, is very bad for Michigan and the Republican Party. Trump has endorsed corruption, perhaps unwittingly. A follow-up letter to the kind lady at Walmart

Dear kind lady, I mentioned I would let you know what our group did with the money you gifted me with at Walmart in the checkout line. Our group decided to have a little party with lots of nice fruit and cheese. The group did give the remainder of the money to a surprised lady that entered our building where we were meeting for the group session. Our group thanks you from the bottom of our hearts. Support your schools, support property tax

Alpena Public Schools has a millage renewal vote coming up on Feb. 27. This is NOT a new tax. This operating millage has been in place since 1994 and does not affect our primary residences. If you do not exercise your right to vote and the millage fails, APS will lose close to $10 million in revenue. This will force APS to reduce and even cut certain programs. I am a graduate of Alpena High School who lived through “Black Friday” as a senior. Schools were closed for three weeks and when we came back there was no busing, programs were cut and it was “Pay to Play” for all ...
