PREP ROUNDUP: Strong second half sends Vikes past Alpena

CADILLAC–The Alpena High boys soccer team couldn’t put together two solid halves on Thursday, losing 6-3 to Cadillac in a Big North Conference game.

Alpena (5-4-1, 0-3 BNC) trailed 3-2 at halftime, but the Vikings took control of the game in the second half.

Brett Najmowicz. Abe Brege and Cam Young had one goal each for Alpena and Namjmowicz and Andrew Dargis each had an assist.

Alpena hosts its annual Huron Shores Tournament on Saturday.

CROSS COUNTRY

Local schools beat in NSL meet

HALE–Several local schools including Rogers City, Alcona and Oscoda competed in the first North Star League meet of the season on Wednesday.

Carter Upper led Alcona’s boys team with an eighth place finish (22:04.5) and Hunter Rigby (24:11.1) and Fallon Hux (24:35.3) finished 12 and 14th respectively.

Matt Wilbert led Rogers City with a third-place finish, crossing the line in 19:44.3.

Andrew Moore led Oscoda with a 17th place finish, finishing in 26:35.9.

Rogers City’s Morgan Baller led all local finishers in the girls race, finishing second in 23:37.2. Sara Decker led Alcona, finishing fourth in 24:24.5.

Rogers City’s Cheyenne Bober was fifth (25:01.6) and Alcona’s Karen Sharboneau was sixth (25:50.6).

Martina Martucci led Oscoda with an eighth place finish (30.52.2).

VOLLEYBALL

Mio 3, Alona 1

LINCOLN–Mio topped Alcona in North Star League action on Thursday, topping the Tigers in four sets.

Mio won 25-22, 25-13, 14-25 and 25-17.

Hillman 3, Fairview 1

HILLMAN–The Hillman volleyball team earned a win on the road Thursday, defeating Fairview in four sets in a North Star League match.

Hillman won 25-19, 15-25, 25-17 and 25-16.
