HILLMAN — Hillman Community Schools honored its top student athletes at its annual spring sports award ceremony, with seniors Evan Crane and Gretchen Weiland named male and female athlete of the year for the 2025-26 school year.
Crane, the son of Brian and Stacy Crane, earned all-state honors in football and all-conference recognition in football, basketball, and baseball during his career. He set numerous school records across the three sports and helped lead his teams to eight championships.
Weiland, the daughter of Jason and Kim Weiland, was a two-time all-state selection in volleyball and a three-time all-state pick in softball. She earned all-region honors this spring as a player of the softball team, which advanced to the Final Four in tournament play. She has signed to play softball at Alma College and holds multiple school records in Hillman.
Hillman Athletic Director Eric Muszynski praised both athletes for their work ethic and leadership.
“Evan and Gretchen are your prototypical student athletes who through their hard work and dedication made our coaches’ jobs here at Hillman High School easier,” Muszynski said. “Both athletes worked very hard, whether it be in the weight-room, off-season workouts, or in the classroom to place themselves and their teammates up for success! They will both go down as two All-Time greats and I’m happy for them and their families.”
