Lumberjacks fall at St. Clair

PORT HURON –The Alpena Community College women’s basketball team has been on the losing side of a handful of close games this season and Monday’s contest at St. Clair Community College was no different as the Lumberjacks were within striking distance, but was unable to convert late and eventually fell by a final score of 70-57.

“We came out a little bit slow. We just need to focus our defense and work hard at the offensive end as well,” ACC coach Bobby Allen said. “We need to look to score at the basket and focus on our plays and team defense. We did not give up and the girls played hard all the way through.”

The Lumberjacks were led by Dakota Prevo who recorded a double-double, scoring 21 points and ripping down 13 rebounds. Brooke Nguyen finished with 15 points off the bench and Emma Jore hauled in 10 rebounds.

The women will be back in action tomorrow when they host a high scoring, No. 7 ranked Macomb team that comes in with an unblemished 20-0 record and averaging nearly 100 points per game.

The struggles continued for the Alpena Community College men’s basketball team on Monday as they traveled to St. Clair Community College and fell to the Skippers by a final score of 93-52.

The Lumberjacks fell behind early, faced a 43-26 halftime deficit and could never recover and St. Clair continued to pour it on in the second half.

Alpena was led by Logan Guenther who scored a team high 15 points and Isaac Hogsett finished with 11 points and nine rebounds.

The men will be back in action tomorrow when they host Macomb Community College at 7:30.
