ALPENA – In game two of the tournament the Wildcats exploded for a dominant 13-3 victory over Sault Area on Saturday, led by a powerful performance from Brady Chapman, who smashed two home runs and drove in three runs.

Chapman got the Wildcats rolling in the bottom of the first inning with a two-run homer to center field. The offense kept pouring it on as Cam McEwen doubled in a run and Colton Anderson hit an RBI single, giving Alpena a quick 5-0 lead. In the second inning, Chapman launched his second homer to right field, Troy MacArthur doubled, and a dropped third strike added another run to make it 8-0.

An RBI single by Ethan Walker in the third inning pushed the lead to 9-0. Alpena added more insurance runs to cruise to the 13-3.

Anderson earned the victory on the mound, throwing three innings and allowing just three hits and two unearned runs while striking out five and walking three. Kadyn Vanderveer pitched in relief.

The Wildcats racked up 14 hits in the game, with MacArthur, Clark Weir, Gavin Ross, and Walker each collecting multiple hits. Weir and Ross each swiped two bases as Alpena stole seven bases total, keeping the pressure on Sault Area’s defense all afternoon.
