ROGERS TOWNSHIP — The owners of Meds Cafe, a marijuana shop in Rogers Township, have been served with a disciplinary complaint by the Cannabis Regulatory Agency.
In the complaint, made public on Tuesday, the Regulatory Agency alleges that Meds Cafe was 102 days late in providing its 2020 financial statement, violating Section 701 of the Medical Marihuana Facilities Licensing Act, which requires that financial statements be provided to the state within a maximum 30 days at the end of the fiscal year.
The state specifically cited Meds Cafe locations in Rogers Township, Lowell, and Manistee. The Meds Cafe location in Alpena wasn’t named in the complaint.
The original complaint dates back to November 2021, according to a copy of the consent order against Meds Cafe made public by the state on Tuesday.
Meds Cafe owners couldn’t be reached for comment on Tuesday.
Meds Cafe has to pay the state $20,000 within 30 days or risk having its license to sell cannabis suspended, according to the consent order.
The Cannabis Regulatory Agency is a state government agency with the expressed goal of establishing Michigan as “the national model for a regulatory program that stimulates business growth while preserving safe consumer access to cannabis,” according to the state’s website.
Meds Cafe was the first marijuana shop to open in Northeast Michigan and began selling medicinal marijuana in 2019 and recreational cannabis in 2020. It is now one of several shops across Northeast Michigan.
Meds Cafe was one of 11 facilities to face disciplinary action on Tuesday, according to the state’s news release.
