ALPENA — All Alpena Public Schools are closed Wednesday and Thursday, due to the volume of students and staff currently out due to illness, the school announced in a press release on Tuesday afternoon.

School will resume on Friday, the press release said.

Athletic and evening events at schools will still take place but students and spectators are asked to stay home if they are ill.

Elsewhere in Northeast Michigan, Onaway Area Community Schools announced Monday via social media that schools were closed Tuesday due to illness among students and staff. All evening activities were to continue as scheduled and the main office was open Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

On Monday, Hillman Schools announced on its website it would be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday due to illness.
