ALPENA — A new principal for Wilson Elementary School has been selected.
Jenny Marceau, Ella White Elementary School’s dean of student support, will greet Wilson students when they return to school in the fall.
Marceau has 20 years of experience with Alpena Public Schools, where she has worked as a teacher, Title 1 interventionist, and an instructional coach.
Superintendent Dave Rabbideau said at the Board of Education’s Executive Committee on Wednesday the district’s administrative team is in place and the hiring was completed in advance of the district’s typical timeline.
“I’m excited about this team,” he said. “With the retirements and the movements, we’ve been able to add some people to it, build the team, and also retain administrators we’re hoping will stay with the district.”
APS had three of its long-time principals retire this year, including Thunder Bay Junior High Principal Steve Genschaw, Lincoln Elementary School Principal Hans Stevens, and Wilson Principal Lisa Hilberg. Alpena High School Principal Tom Berriman and Ella White Elementary School Principal Courtney Fredlund will also transition to new schools.
Berriman will become the new principal at Ella White while Fredlund will transition to Lincoln. AHS Assistant Principal Katie Lee will become principal of TBJHS and AHS Assistant Principal Romeo Bourdage was recently named principal of AHS.
Mike Buchinger, an AHS graduate and administrator at Oscoda High School, and Jessie Pattison, the high school’s current dean of students, were recently announced as the new AHS assistant principals.
The district also received eight more resignations from teachers, support staff, and bus drivers. Mike Gozzard, TBJHS and AHS band director, was among those to resign from the district.
Superintendent Rabbideau and School Board President Gordon Snow said they were initially worried about filling Gozzard’s position. However, Rabbideau said the district received nine applicants for the position.
The district is in the midst of its summer hiring. There are currently 34 positions posted online.
