DEARBORN – Gas prices in Michigan are down 27 cents from a week ago. Michigan drivers are now paying an average of $4.38 per gallon for regular unleaded. This price is 20 cents less than this time last month but still $1.28 more than this time last year.

Motorists are paying an average of $66 for a full 15-gallon tank of gasoline; an increase of about $15 from 2025’s highest price last August.

According to new data from the Energy Information Administration (EIA), gasoline demand increased from 8.76 million b/d to 9.25 million. Total domestic gasoline supply decreased from 214.2 million barrels to 211.6 million. Gasoline production increased last week, averaging 9.9 million barrels per day.

At the close of Friday’s formal trading session, WTI fell $1.54 to settle at $87.36 a barrel. The EIA reports crude oil inventories decreased by 3.3 million barrels from the previous week. At 441.7 million barrels, U.S. crude oil inventories are about 2% below the five-year average for this time of year.

“Michigan drivers are getting some relief at the pump, with gas prices down 27 cents from last week,” said Adrienne Woodland, spokesperson, AAA-The Auto Club Group. “While the drop is welcome as we head into the busy summer travel season, fuel prices remain volatile and could shift again quickly.”

Compared to last week, Metro Detroit’s average daily gas price decreased. Metro Detroit’s current average is $4.39 per gallon, about 25 cents less than last week’s average but still $1.27 more than this same time last year.

The most expensive gas price averages were in Traverse City where it was $4.48 a gallon, while the least expensive gas price averages were in Flint at $4.15 a gallon.
