Firefighters respond to DPI fire

The Alpena Fire Department responded to the fire, after the plant lost power during a thunderstorm and fire occurred in the number three press, Fire Chief Bill Forbush said in a news release. Firefighters worked with DPI staff to identify the source of the fire and carefully extinguish the burning material while minimizing damage to the manufacturing equipment. Forbush said the fire was caused by overheated material in the industrial process, and was deemed an accident. He said the fire was brought under control quickly, but firefighters remained on scene at 4 p.m. conducting overhaul operations.
