Alpena to address potholes

File photo

ALPENA — This winter has been exceptionally hard on the streets. Many potholes exist throughout the city. As time allows, department of public works crews will patch these potholes as best they can. However, with the cold temperatures, wet conditions, and frequent plowing this season, the repair material often comes out of the pothole within 24 hours.

Crews try to make regular trips throughout the City to repair the potholes, but there are many other duties that they are also responsible for on a day to day basis.

If the potholes are large enough, crews will also place a cone or barricade near the location to alert motorists of the road hazard. Unfortunately, these do sometimes get hit or run over and will sometimes get snow-covered, defeating their purpose.

This is all part of living in this northern Michigan weather.

The city asks for your patience during this time. All pothole location calls are reported to DPW, even if they were previously reported.
