Alcona library sets February events

HARRISVILLE — The Alcona County Library has a full schedule of events in February. For more information on any of these programs, call 989-724-6796.

¯ Tuesday, Feb. 1 — Alcona teens, the library needs your help! The world-famous thief Lupin has struck again! He’s pilfered the laptop of a best-selling Michigan author containing the only copy of their latest novel. It’s up to you to decode the notes he has left around the websites of Michigan libraries and recover the laptop before the draft is due on March 15. ¯ Tuesdays, Feb. 1 and 15 — Knitting Klub & Crochet is from 1:15 to 3:15 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. All ages and levels are welcome.

¯ Wednesday, Feb. 2 — The Alcona County Library in Harrisville will be closed all day. Caledonia, Lincoln, and Mikado branches will remain open for their regular hours. The library appreciates your patience as they prepare for the “Thinking Money for Kids” exhibition.

¯ Thursday, Feb. 3 — The Alcona County Library in Harrisville will be closed until 2 p.m. Caledonia, Lincoln, and Mikado branches will remain open for their regular hours. The “Thinking Money for Kids” exhibition open house is from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, a traveling exhibition designed to teach kids and their families about money, thanks to Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union and a competitive national grant from the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation. The “Thinking Money for Kids” exhibit will commence with an open house, a gift basket raffle, and a piggy bank giveaway. Enter a drawing for a chance to win a Chromebook. The winner will be announced on the final day of the exhibition, at 3 p.m. on March 17.

¯ Thursdays, Feb. 3, 10, 17, 24 — Community Walking Club for Everyone will meet at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library every Thursday.

¯ Fridays, Feb. 4, 18, 25 — Storytime and craft for children is at 10:30 a.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library.

¯ Friday, Feb. 11 — A special storytime and craft will be held at 10:30 a.m., featuring “Click, Clack, MOO!” for children at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Thanks to Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union and a competitive national grant from the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

¯ Monday, Feb. 14 — Celebrate Love Your Library Month with the Alcona County Library. Read the paper, eat a muffin and enjoy coffee from 9:30 a.m. to noon at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library every morning through Feb. 18.

¯ Monday, Feb. 14 — Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union will present a program on Budgeting for Adults at 1:30 p.m. at the Alcona County Library in Harrisville.

¯ Tuesday, Feb. 15 — The Alcona Book Club will meet from noon to 1 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. The selection for February is “The Lions of Fifth Avenue,” by Fiona Davis.

¯ Wednesday, Feb. 16 — Children of all ages are invited to Homeschoolers at the Library at 1 p.m. for a fun and educational activity at the Alcona County Library in Harrisville.

¯ Wednesday, Feb. 16 — Teens aged 12 and up are invited to play a “Surviving the Zombie Apocalypse” Budgeting Game (candy included) at 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library. Learn to prioritize your money during a zombie apocalypse. Thanks to Alpena Alcona Area Credit Union and a competitive national grant from the American Library Association and the FINRA Investor Education Foundation.

¯ Monday, Feb. 21 — The Alcona County Library and its branches will be closed to observe Presidents’ Day.

¯ Wednesday, Feb. 23 — The Alcona County Library Board will meet at 2 p.m. at the Harrisville branch.

¯ Monday, Feb. 28 — Do you love chocolate? Join the Alcona County Library in Harrisville from 2 to 4 p.m. to find out how one of your favorite Valentine’s Day confections is made, as Teresa guides you through the history and process of harvesting and roasting to the final sweet cocoa product we love.
