Thunder Bay Arts presents Soprano and Piano concert May 3

ALPENA — Soprano Paige Heidrich and Pianist Tina Gorter will be performing in a collaborative classical recital at 7 p.m. on Friday, May 3 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Alpena.

This free concert is sponsored by Thunder Bay Arts.

Heidrich is an Ohio native with a Master of Music degree from Michigan State University and is currently pursuing a DMA in Voice Performance. She has been seen on the MSU main stage as Alice Ford in “Falstaff,” Lady Billows in “Albert Herring,” and Geraldine in “A Hand of Bridge.” Her next performance includes a self-produced production of “The Ghosts of Gatsby,” a chamber opera about the tumultuous marriage between Zelda and Scott Fitzgerald. This May, Heidrich will sing with the Detroit Opera in “Cunning Little Vixen.”

Dr. Gorter is a professional collaborative pianist who currently serves as an Adjunct Piano Professor at the University of Notre Dame. She holds her DMA in Collaborative Piano from Michigan State University. Gorter has served as a vocal coach and music director for the opera scenes program at Interlochen Center for the Arts Camp, as well as vocalists at the collegiate level. Along with teaching, she has performed on the concert stage as the pianist for the Southwest Michigan Vocal Festival, Grand Rapids Opera, Ad Astra Music Festival, as well as the internationally recognized vocal ensemble, Voces8.

Their performance on May 3 will include pieces from several composers, including Clara Schumann, Claude Debussy, Gabriel Faure, Irving Berlin, Samuel Barber, Joowon Kim, and William Bolcom.

“As a member of the Thunder Bay Arts Council, I can say that we are delighted to bring this genre of music to Northern Michigan,” said Stefanie Huffaker. “Alpena is known for its art culture, and this will be a great way to start off the new summer music season.”
