ALPENA — The annual auction of the Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma was held on Thursday, April 18 at the First United Methodist Church in Alpena. Members and guests enjoyed a catered dinner featuring soup, salad and dessert prior to the business meeting.

Auction items were on display throughout the evening, allowing members and guests to bid on donated items. Once the business meeting ended, the bidding closed and the lucky winners were able to claim their prizes. The money raised will be used to support current educators, future educators and the children residing in Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Counties.

Specifically, each year the group awards financial support to five new teachers in the area for the purchase of teaching materials, annually provide tuition assistance to a student entering the teaching profession, support the Myrna Kelley Scholarship through Alpena Community College for a future teacher, and purchase books for newborns at MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena.

The next meeting of Alpha Xi will be on Monday, May 13 at the 19th Hole Restaurant.
