The old Democratic Party is at it again

The old Democratic Party is at it again. Pointing fingers at everyone else, knowing that the Democrats are responsible for the mess this country is in. They follow the recipe to ruin this country and shred our constitution. Who took our energy independence away? Our border is wide open to let more than 100 countries enter at will, invited by your leaders. Democrats. Who’s letting all the drugs come in and the rapes and robberies with them? And when some are caught, the Justice Department turns a blind eye and puts them on the streets to do it again. Who lies about the border being ...

Where’s the coverage of Peninsula Fund?

The current investigation of alleged irregularities in “The Peninsula Fund” has been called one of the biggest potential scandals in Michigan history, Current candidate for the Michigan legislature, Cam Cavitt, was an officer of the fund during the time of alleged improprieties. Yet I have read no coverage of the ongoing investigation here. Cavitt claims to have been unaware of the problems. At the Presque Isle Republican candidate forum before the primary, Cavitt was questioned about his role with the fund. He implied he wasn’t even really aware he was affiliated with the fund ...

Vote for the best candidate, not the party

Commissioner Robert Adrian has served as an Alpena County commissioner for 10 years. The only Democrat on the board, Bob has been elected by his fellow commissioners as chairman for the past three years. Prior to his retirement, Bob worked for the Alpena City Fire Department for 36 years and at his retirement held the position of assistant chief. Politics doesn’t affect Bob’s decisions. He has always been fair-minded, regardless of party. Bob provided strong leadership through the COVID pandemic and is currently the senior-most commissioner. Now is not the time for a change in ...

Shame on The News for not reaching out

In the Thursday, Oct. 20, 2022 edition, in the article titled Several Competitive Races Across Alcona County, written by James Andersen, Assistant Managing Editor, it states “Turek could not be reached for comment”. I can say this is completely false. I have never received a call from either the Alpena News or James Andersen himself. I have had a business in Alcona County for 22 years so my personal contact information as well as my business contact information is completely visible to even the most beginning reporter. It is truly sad that this is what qualifies for news these ...

Steady hand needed to guide school board

Recently Bob Krafft wrote a letter to this newspaper. He expressed concern with four school board candidates dragging politics into our schools. I share Bob’s distress. A major political party has spent thousands of dollars sponsoring these guys. Why? Because of axes to grind. Accessing public school funds to grind axes can be a waste of money and time — your money — young people’s time. Young people have no time to waste. 56% of workers in this county aged 50 and over lost their jobs before they were ready to retire. Of that 56%, 90% never recovered their earning ...

Vote yes on Prop. 3 to give women rights back

In response to the letter to the editor from Jacqueline Fitzgerald, I would like to offer my reasons why I support Proposition 3. Proposition 3 grants Michigan women the same rights they had under Roe v. Wade for a generation. The scare tactics mentioned in Ms. Fitzgerald’s letter — sterilization of minors, abortions without parental consent — did not happen under Roe and will not be permitted by law under Prop. 3. Likewise, linking Proposal 3 which grants women the freedom to make their own personal and private medical decisions about pregnancy to human trafficking is the ...
