Exchange Club scholarships due March 1

The Exchange Club of Alpena is currently accepting applications for two scholarships, the A.C.E. (Accepting the Challenge of Excellence) Award and the Stanley C. Beck Youth of the Year. Both scholarships award $1,000 to the student.

The A.C.E. Award recognizes a high school student who has had to overcome great physical, emotional, or social obstacles and is now eligible for high school graduation. Students must share a narrative describing the obstacles and how they overcome them as well as describing their future plans. Applications are available from ACES Academy Counselor Barb Matteson, at the Career Resource Center from Julie Samp at AHS or by emailing Tony Suszek at tonysuszek@gmail.com.

The Stanley C. Beck Youth of the Year is in honor of Beck, a former Alpena educator and Exchange Club of Alpena member. This scholarship requires students to write and present an essay themed after a topic of national pride and leadership. This year’s essay theme is “How I am a catalyst in my community?” Interested students can pick up application materials from Samp in the Career Resource Center at Alpena High School.

Deadline for scholarships has been extended to March 1. Both scholarship winners will qualify for the State and District scholarships, which are for $1,000 each, and then qualify for the National Exchange Club scholarships that are $10,000 each.
