PREP ROUNDUP: Hillman, Posen, Alcona continue winning streaks

HOCKEY

TC Reps 3, Alpena 2

TRAVERSE CITY– James Kuhl scored his first varsity goal and Anden Marceau added a goal for the Wildcats in a Saturday loss. Aidan Schultz made 26 saves for Alpena (1-7-1) and Matt Thompson and Blaise Keller each had an assist.

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Posen 65, Fairview 24

POSEN–Makayla Kamyszek scored 20 points, Ella Szatkowski scored 19 and the Vikings cruised to another North Star League win on Monday. Posen (6-1, 6-0 NSL) led 26-12 at halftime and had a solid game distributing the ball, according to coach Karl Momrik. Madison Menzel added 10 points for Posen in the win.

Posen hosts Atlanta on Tuesday.

Hillman 45, Hale 16

HILLMAN–Sage Flaugher scored 16 points and Julia Taratuta added 14 for the Tigers (6-3, 5-2 NSL), who used a solid defensive effort to generate plenty of offense Monday to win their third straight game. Hillman led 18-8 at halftime.

Hillman plays at Fairview on Friday.

Alcona 61, W-P 20

WHITTEMORE–Buoyed by a strong first quarter and a strong third quarter, the Tigers earned their fourth straight win on Monday. Rachel Layton and Kelsey Hansen each had nine points for Alcona (6-1), who had six players with at least seven points. Lily Bilbey, Anna Loyer and Karen Sharboneau each had eight points for the Tigers, who had a 20-point first quarter and a 24-point third quarter.

Alcona plays at Rogers City Wednesday.

Oscoda 45, Rogers City 27

ROGERS CITY–Karissa Rabeau had 15 points and Kaitlin Nowicki had eight for the Hurons (4-4), who did their best to slow down the undefeated Owls. Oscoda (10-0) pulled away with eight three-pointers on the night and led 28-17 at halftime. Izzy Hulverson paced the Owls with 12 points and Mia Whipkey had 10.

Rogers City hosts Oscoda on Wednesday and Oscoda plays at Alcona Friday.

BOWLING

The Alcona boys bowling team–Brenden Hudgins, Logan Bates, Sam Prince, Zach Stephenson, Jakob Tanner–had.a doubleheader over the weekend. High score on a single game was Tanner with 245, followed by Hudgins with 244, and Bates with 147.  Team scores were 691/672, 758/765 for a total for the day of 2,886.

The Alcona girls bowling team–Brielle Keyser, Victoria Skuse, Samantha Nordstrom, Morgan Munsey, Nicole Swalley, Jerzey Brown–also had a doubleheader. High score on a single game was Skuse with 169, followed by Nordstrom with 164, and Keyser with 137.  Team scores were 577/624, 588/577 for a total for the day of 2,366. 

Next week, Alcona plays at Hi-Skore.
