“I was a little disappointed that we let TC get back in the game in the opener but the kids really competed in the second game.” Wrecks coach Chris Limback said. “We ended up taking second place in the league by one point and now we need to get prepared for playoff hockey down the stretch.”

The Wrecks are now 25-7-4 on the season and will head to Tawas for a pair of games against the Saginaw Spirit today.

The Thunder Bay Wrecks Bantam A hockey team wrapped up the regular season in Little Caesars hockey action against the Suburban Stars and won 4-2.

Kyle Hebner won a key face-off in the offensive zone that led to the Wrecks first goal. Keegan Mathews fired a quick wrist shot from the top of the face-off circle that beat Nich Rogers high to the glove side two minutes into the second period. The Star tied things up two minutes later off of a goal mouth scramble by Conner Williams. Hebner gave the Wrecks the lead again off of a shot just inside the blue line that seemed to catch Rogers off guard. This goal seemed to energize the Wrecks as Owen Limback intercepted an errant pass and beat two defenders before deking out the Stars goalie and scoring for the 3-0 lead seconds later.

The Stars controlled the play for the first half of the third period but could not score against Alpena netminder Cooper Black.

Colby Plowman outworked two Stars players to score a key short-handed goal with three minutes left to seal the victory. Suburban added goal one more with one minute to play.

Cooper Black made 16 saves in the win while Rogers made 18 saves in the loss.

“As a coach you are always worried about taking time off for the holiday, but the kids really came out and played a solid game today.” Wrecks coach Chris Limback said. ‘We have a one point lead heading into the final weekend so the worst we can finish is second.”

The Wrecks are now 24-7-3 on the season and will host Traverse City today at 11:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. at Northern Lights Arena.
