Township primary races announced

File Photo

ALPENA — The townships in Northeast Michigan have forwarded the names of the candidates to the county clerks and there will be few competitive races during the primary election in August.

The primary election pits candidates from the same political party against one another with the winners squaring off during the November general election.

A person running for office can also run unopposed if nobody from either party files to run against them.

The candidate list from Presque Isle County did not list the candidate’s political party affiliation, but there may be one race that could be contested if both candidates share the same political party.

In Presque Isle Township, Cynthia Paavola and Kathryn Szydlowski filed to run for clerk, The News is uncertain if they will face off in August or in November.
