ALPENA — A two-vehicle crash on Washington Avenue in Alpena injured one and backed up traffic during the Tuesday morning commute. A white minivan crashed into a blue Chevrolet SUV — both eastbound on Washington — shortly before 9 a.m. as the SUV slowed to turn into Evergreen Cemetery. Both vehicles sustained significant damage and were towed, although airbags did not deploy, according to police.

Paramedics transported the driver of the minivan to MidMichigan Medical Center-Alpena. Police did not know the extent of the driver’s injuries. The driver of the Chevrolet did not require medical treatment. Alpena Police Department officers cleared the scene and reopened the road to traffic by about 9:15 a.m.
