Local school board Roundup: APS approves contract with bus drivers

Recent actions by school boards in Northeast Michigan:

∫ The Alpena Public Schools Board of Education recently approved a one-year contract with the district’s bus drivers, whose previous contract expired June 30. The bus drivers received a 30-cents-per-hour wage increase, according to Matt Poli, executive director for human resources and labor relations. Poli said there are about 36 bus drivers employed with APS.

∫ The Alpena Community College Board of Trustees recently hired Eric Kennedy as concrete technology instructor and Sarah Prevo as director of TRiO Talent Search. The board also accepted the retirements of maintenance staffer Charles Seguin and science instructor Douglas Huizenga.

∫ The Alcona Community Schools Board of Education recently hired two new professional staff, a teacher and associate teacher, for the Great Start Readiness program, an elementary cook, and a receptionist to help with the schools’ food service program.

Dustin Yokum was hired as a secondary language arts teacher, and Jamie Karshina was hired as a special education, English, and math teacher. Lisa Dellar was hired as a teacher and Desiree Renz was hired as an associate teacher for the district’s Great Start Readiness Program. The board also accepted the resignation of cook Pamela Rasmussen and hired Tracy Davison as the elementary school’s new cook. Shannon Leeseberg was also hired as a part-time receptionist to help with the food service program.

∫ The Atlanta Community Schools Board of Education recently hired Melissa Cumper as its K-12 Secretary and accepted the resignation of Darci Brown, who worked as a paraprofessional.
