HUNT arrests man on meth charges

A 44-year-old Metz man was arrested Thursday on multiple drug charge following an investigation by the Huron Undercover Narcotics Team. The man faces charges including manufacture methamphetamine, maintaining a methamphetamine laboratory and possession of pseudoephedrine for the purpose of making methamphetamine.

He was lodged in the Presque Isle County Jail and additional charges are pending the prosecutor’s review. The initial charge of manufacture methamphetamine is punishable by up to 20 years in prison and/or a $25,000 fine.

The investigation began on June 23 when a deputy from the Presque Isle County Sheriff Department recognized potential evidence of the manufacture of meth. This information was forwarded to HUNT, and detectives began their investigation. Detectives were able to establish substantial evidence leading to the execution of a search warrant at the home of a 77-year-old Metz woman. It was determined that probable cause existed to arrest her 44-year-old son on the meth charges.

In a press release, HUNT stated the production of methamphetamine continues to be of significant concern in Northeast Michigan, HUNT’s service area.

The Huron Undercover Narcotics Team is a multijurisdictional drug task force that operates in the counties of Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency and Presque Isle. Residents are encouraged to contact HUNT with tips regarding drug dealing at 1-800-573-DRUG. If they wish, callers may remain anonymous.
