HARRISVILLE–Joshua Dohring, 40, and Cassandra Quintanilla, 36, both had their probable cause hearings in the 81st District Court in Alcona County on Wednesday, where it was decided to hold their preliminary examinations at 11 a.m. on June 10.
Dohring is charged with assault with intent to murder, and Quintanilla is charged with accessory after the fact to a felony. They are co-defendants for an alleged stabbing that occurred on May 14 in Mikado.
The victim was a male that was stabbed in the neck at the Mikado baseball fields. Alcona EMS was able to quickly load the victim and transport him to MyMichigan Medical Center Alpena with critical injuries. The victim was then med-flighted to Ann Arbor My Michigan Hospital. It was the quick action of the Alcona EMS, Alcona Sheriff’s deputy, and Mikado First Responders tending to the victim’s injuries that helped sustain his life. The victim has undergone surgery.
Dohring was arraigned on May 18. He was given a $1,000,000 bond cash surety 10%. Quintanilla was also arraigned on May 18 and was given a $50,000 bond cash surety 10%. She has since made bond and been released from jail.
At Wednesday’s hearing, Dohring’s attorney Bill Pfeifer and Quintanilla’s Attorney Robert Bajesky both said that they had received extensive discovery. Discovery is the initial evidence for a case that may include pictures, videos, or other forms of evidence that prosecutors and attorneys exchange. The two attorneys said they are both expecting more discovery to be sent from the prosecutor’s office.
Alcona County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Steve Tyler also said that the amount of discovery is “voluminous.”
Quintanilla appeared via Zoom from what appeared to be a stationary vehicle. Dohring appeared via Zoom from the Alpena County Jail.
Tyler, Pfeifer, and Bajesky also discussed whether the co-defendants’ preliminary examinations should take place at the same time or whether there should be two separate examinations.
Pfeifer said he had no objections to holding the two examinations together.
Pfeifer asked whether he could address Dohring’s bond that day or at the preliminary examination. Judge Laura Frawley said it could be addressed at the examination.
