On Aug. 5, Alpena Longbeards, Alpena Sportsman’s Club and Thunder Bay Walleye Club hosted a catch-and-release fishing day for members and friends at Paxton Quarry. All 47 children 17 and younger received a prize. One teenager caught the biggest fish — a 35-inch pike. Many bass were also caught. A hot dog lunch was provided to all participants. Event organizers appreciate Holcim for allowing the use of the quarry and they are grateful to all the clubs involved for their donations, as well as Pepsi for pop, and Vickey Donakowski.
