ALPENA — Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan will host its first-ever pickleball tournament fundraiser, “Dink for Dwellings: Habitat Pickleball Smash!” on Saturday, Aug. 15, at McRae Park Courts in Alpena. Teams of two are invited to compete, and the whole community is welcome to cheer them on.
Every dollar raised stays local, supporting Habitat’s mission of building safe, decent, affordable housing in partnership with families across Alcona, Alpena, Montmorency, Oscoda, and Presque Isle counties.
“Pickleball has brought so many people together in our community, and this tournament channels that energy toward something lasting — helping our neighbors achieve the strength, stability, and self-reliance that come with an affordable home,” said Ted Fines, Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity Northeast Michigan. “Whether you play, sponsor, volunteer, or come out to watch, you’ll be part of building homes and hope right here in Northeast Michigan.”
With construction costs continuing to rise, community support has never been more vital. Individuals, businesses, churches, clubs, and organizations are all encouraged to get involved — at the tournament and beyond.
Tournament details:
The mixed doubles tournament is open to players age 16 and older, with two divisions based on self-reported skill level. Teams may be co-ed or two same-gender players. Registration is $60 per team and includes an event T-shirt for each player, access to the participant refreshment tent, and a morning of friendly competition for a great cause.
Check-in begins at 8 a.m., with play starting at 9 a.m. An awards ceremony will follow the tournament in the afternoon.
Sponsorship opportunities:
Can’t make it to the courts? Sponsorships are available at the $100, $200, $250, and $500 levels. Sponsors giving $100 or more will be recognized on the event T-shirt if they sign up by Friday, July 31.
