HARRISVILLE – The Alcona County Library has a host of fun, exciting, and educational events planned for the coming early next month. There is something for everyone and listed below is a brief list of things for people to enjoy.
Michigan Notable Author Todd Goddard at Alcona County Library
Michigan Notable author Todd Goddard will visit the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, 312 W. Main St., at 6 p.m. on Aug. 3. Goddard will discuss and answer questions about his book, Devouring Time: Jim Harrison, a Writer’s Life, a biography of Grayling, Michigan, native and literary legend Jim Harrison. This program is made possible through the support of the Library of Michigan, the Library of Michigan Foundation, and Michigan Humanities. Signed copies of the book, provided by Parallel 45 Books and Gifts in Alpena, will be available for purchase. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided by the Friends of the Library.
Painted Book Edges at Lincoln and Mikado Branches
The Alcona County Library will offer Painted Book Edges workshops at two branch locations.
The first workshop will begin at 2 p.m. on Aug. 4, at the Lincoln branch, 330 Traverse Bay Road. Space is limited, call 989-569-8177 to register.
A second workshop will begin at 2 p.m. on August 5, at the Mikado branch, 2291 S. F-41. Space is limited, call 989-569-8175 to register.
Participants will decorate the edges of a book to create a colorful, personalized work of art. The workshops are open to ages 15 and older. There is no charge to attend. This workshop is funded by a grant from the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan.
Big Bubble Dance Party at Alcona County Library
Kids and teens are invited to bring their friends and enjoy music, dancing, bubbles and plenty of summer fun at the Big Bubble Dance Party with Joel Tacey. The event will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 6, at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, 312 W. Main St. Bubble machines will fill the air, bubble wands will be ready to go, and there will be plenty of lively, photo-worthy fun. Come for the music, stay for the bubbles and get ready for a poppin’ good time at the library.
Bedazzled Book Covers at the Library
The Alcona County Library will host a Bedazzled Book Covers workshop at 11 a.m. on Aug. 8, at the Harrisville branch, 312 W. Main St. Participants will transform book covers with sparkling rhinestones. The program is open to ages 15 and older. There is no charge to attend. This workshop is funded by a grant from the Community Foundation for Northeast Michigan. Space is limited, call 989-724-6796 to register.
Make-It Monday Fairy Lanterns
Make-It Monday with Mary returns at 2 p.m. on Aug. 10, at the Harrisville branch of the Alcona County Library, 312 W. Main St. Participants will create enchanting fairy lanterns. There will be a charge for supplies. Space is limited, call 989-724-6796 for more information and to register.
