Hillman VFW Aux. met

A regular meeting of the VFW Auxiliary 2356 was called to order by President Tom Brown at 6 p.m. Holiday donations were decided upon. A thinking of you card was signed by all for Comrad Jim Knorr who is seriously injured. A holiday party for active members was discussed and presented to Commander Bob Hunt to take to the VFW for finalization. Caregivers are being presented with a special thank you for what they do. The meeting closed per tradition to open at 6 p.m. the first Tuesday of December.

Alpena VFW Auxiliary held November meeting

The regular meeting of the VFW 2496 Auxiliary was called to order by President Darryl McQuarrie at 6 p.m. on Nov. 9 with 12 members attending.

The secretary minutes from last month were presented and the treasurer report was given and approved, pending audit. Mary gave the audit report from July-September. A $2,000 donation was presented from the Sunday bingo.

A card was read from Linda Millard thanking everyone who volunteered to make the Halloween party for the Monday Activity Group a huge success. The party goers were surprised with extra take home gift bags. Commander Tammy Doffek visited the meeting and thanked the auxiliary for all their support and help with VFW projects.

Several committee chairmen gave reports on the projects that were completed during the last month. Four members attended the District 13 meeting on Nov. 6 and donated a gift basket to assist the district president in raising needed funds. The president was presented an Achievement Award for Community Service to the auxiliary. Members were informed about several upcoming events to be held over the next week including Veterans Day and Buddy Poppy sales. Another craft bazaar is planned for Dec. 11.

It was decided to have a Christmas dinner for those attending the Post and Auxiliary meetings on Dec. 14. The emblems of the 5 entities involved at Post 2496 have been installed on the building and are in the process of being wired for lights.

The closing ritual was conducted and President Darryl adjourned the meeting at 7:05. The next meeting is at 6 p.m. Dec. 14 with the dinner prior to the meeting.

Holiday cookies offered by senior center

Place your orders for holiday cookies from Alpena Senior Citizens Center. Call 989-356-3585 to reserve your cookie tray, which will include an assortment of cookies displayed on a tray, wrapped with a ribbon. One dozen cookies is $8, two dozen is $14, and three dozen is $20. This is a fundraiser for senior programs. The senior center is located at 501 River St., Alpena.

Power of Parenting workshop Tuesday

Join other parents for the next Power of Parenting workshop from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. via Zoom, about reconnecting with the importance of family story.

Text Power to 989-250-2907 to RSVP for this event by noon today. AMA District parents will receive an Our Family Fillable Book for attending. Power of Parenting workshops are planned by the Parenting Education Team with funding provided from Alpena Presque Isle Child Abuse & Neglect Team.

This Power of Parenting Workshop aligns with the Strengthening Families Framework by promoting the following Protective Factors: Knowledge of Parenting and Child Development; and Social Connections.

Order your Christmas dinner by Friday

Friday is the deadline to reserve your Christmas dinner for pickup only from Alpena Senior Citizens Center. The meals will be available for pickup on Wednesday, Dec. 8. Call 989-356-3585 to reserve your meal, which will include pineapple glazed ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, vegetable, dinner roll, cheesecake and juice. The suggested donation for seniors 60 and older is $3.50, and the cost for those younger than 60 is $7. The senior center is located at 501 River St., Alpena.

Christmas lunch/auction Saturday in Rogers City

GFWC Rogers City Area Civic League will hold a Christmas lunch/auction on Saturday. The event will start at noon, and will feature a lunch buffet, prizes, auction and cash bar, at Nautical Lanes, 377 N. Third St., Rogers City. Tickets are $25, presale only, and must be reserved by calling Renee at 989-734-7457. GFWC stands for General Federation of Women’s Clubs.

Sportsmen’s Club wild game dinner Saturday

The Alpena Sportsmen’s Club Wild Game Dinner and Raffle will be held on Saturday. Tickets are $40 each, which includes a wild game dinner and beverages. There will be 12 firearm raffles throughout the night, as well as many other drawings and giveaways. Tickets are available at Jimmie Garant’s Party Store, Cliff Anschuetz Chevrolet, or from any Sportsmen’s Club board member. The dinner will be held at Alpena Sportsmen’s Club, 4260 M-32, Alpena. Proceeds will support the programs put on by the Sportsmen’s Club throughout the upcoming year.

Grace Lutheran bake sale Saturday

Grace Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas bake sale from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, featuring assorted cookies, bread, candy, and other baked goods. The church is located at 119 W. Dunbar St., Alpena.
