Garden Tour Saturday

The Alpena Garden Club will host a Garden Tour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday, featuring seven beautiful gardens in the area. Tickets are available for $10 apiece at the Alpena Senior Citizens Center and Real Estate One on Chisholm Street in Alpena.

Family Fun Day Wednesday at Splash Park

Alpena-Montmorency-Alcona’s Great Start Collaborative will host a Family Fun Day event from 5 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Rotary Splash Park at Starlite Beach in Alpena. This event is for families and caregivers with children ages birth to 12 years old, and older siblings are also welcome. Activities will include chalk painting and a scavenger hunt. Programs at Alcona County Library

The Alcona County Library in Harrisville is hosting several upcoming programs. For more information, call 989-724-6796.

The first session of a fishing program will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Harrisville branch. The program is called Hooked on Fishing? Learn from a Pro! A second session will take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Glennie branch, 4884 Bamfield Road. Curious about fishing but not sure where to begin? Join expert angler Don Snoeyink for a fun, informative seminar that takes the mystery out of getting started. With over 50 years of experience, Don will guide you through choosing the right rod and reel, selecting line strength, understanding hook and lure options, and much more. You’ll also learn practical skills like casting, knot tying, and fish cleaning, plus where to find fish throughout the seasons. Whether you’re after panfish or pike, this seminar will leave you feeling confident and ready to cast off. This free program is designed for ages 12 and up.

Tomatoes with Teresa, a special pop-up gardening event, will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, July 14 at the Harrisville branch, 312 W. Main St. Local tomato enthusiast Teresa will share her tips and tricks for growing healthy, thriving tomato plants, and she’s bringing free tomato plants to give away. No registration required.

Get ready to twist, shout, and travel through time at the Rock and Roll Time Machine events on Tuesday, July 15. The first session will be held at 11 a.m. at the Harrisville branch, and another at 2 p.m. at the Glennie branch. Rock and Roll Time Machine is a fast-paced, interactive show that mixes the music of early rock and roll with history, comedy, dance, and audience participation. This event is open to all ages.

Adult Trauma series starts Thursday

A free series about the impact of your adverse childhood experiences is coming to Alpena and Onaway. Partners in Prevention will host “How Trauma in Childhood Can Impact Adulthood” from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursdays, July 10 through Aug. 7, at the First Presbyterian Church in Alpena. The same program will be offered on those same days and times at the Onaway Courthouse.

This series is for any adult curious about the impact of their own adverse childhood experiences and other traumatic events during their childhood on their adult life.

Aid by the Dozen meeting held

The June meeting of the Aid by the Dozen was held at the 19th Hole, hosted by Chris Dubey. Heidi Kucharek was welcomed as a guest. The monthly donation went to The Friendship Room. After lunch, Chris served homemade cookies. The hostess gift was won by Marlene Montie. Secret pals were many: Mariette Jore, Tammy Daleski, Carole Kelly, Sherry Allen, Leora Jacobs, and Chris Dubey. Nancy Belanger will host the July meeting.
