ALPENA — Five runners in the Dork Brothers Fourth of July 5K crossed the 2nd Avenue Bridge before it went up mid-race on Friday, holding up the remaining 200-plus runners and walkers for nearly four minutes, according to Race Director Joe Gentry.

Gentry said this is the second year in a row the bridge has gone up during the race, and that next year there will be a new course, avoiding the 2nd Avenue Bridge.

The following times will reflect the roughly four-minute gap in the results, affecting all runners and walkers after the first five crossed the bridge.

Teens dominated the field in the race, which started from the APlex on Friday morning.

Sixteen-year-old Caden Livermore won the 5K with a time of 16:26, followed in second by 15-year-old Xander Allen with 16:40, and 15-year-old Logan Szumila in third with a time of 16:49. Fourth place went to 14-year-old Brendan Werth with 17:42, and 13-year-old Logan Meerschaert placed fifth with a time of 17:45.

Bryce Poellet, 31, was the sixth finisher, with a time of 21:18, followed in seventh by Carter Livermore, 18, with a time of 21:19. Justin Karsten, 42, placed eighth with 21:36, followed by Joe Merriweather-Webb, 36, in ninth with 21:41. Luke Willoughby, 26, rounded out the top 10 with a time of 21:44.

Ann Wittbrodt, 32, was the first female finisher and the 19th overall finisher, with a time of 22:31. The second female, 39-year-old Grace McMonagle, was not far behind Wittbrodt, placing 21st overall with a time of 22:48. Micah Poellet, 22, finished third on the female side and 23rd overall, with a time of 22:51. Brynn Copenhaver, 16, came in fourth for the females and 27th overall, with a time of 23:11. Emily Hurrell, 35, placed fifth for females and 33rd overall, with a time of 23:43. Eva Borowski, 17, was just two seconds behind Hurrell to garner sixth in the female contest and 34th overall, with a time of 23:45. Lisa Mischley, 45, placed seventh for the females and 41st overall, with a time of 24:07, closely followed by Sarah Morrison, 43, who placed eight for the females and 42nd overall, with a time of 24:08. Jacklyn Harvey, 38, placed ninth in the female race and 44th overall, with a time of 24:12. Jessica Donakowski, 34, rounded out the top 10 female finishers with a time of 24:13, placing 45th overall.
