Veteran’s relief donations sought now thru Nov. 17

The annual veteran’s relief effort is underway in the area now through Wednesday, Nov. 17.

Donations of new men’s and women’s loose-fitting clothing, such as sweatshirts and sweatpants, socks, shorts, and tennis shoes are requested. Also, please drop off new personal hygiene items like razors, shaving cream, toothpaste, toothbrushes, soap and shampoo. Donated items will be taken to the Aleda E. Lutz Veterans Hospital in Saginaw for distribution to veterans in need on Friday, Nov. 19.

Drop-off locations include: Young Appliance on U.S.-23 South, Alpena; Cliff Anschuetz Chevrolet on U.S.-23 North, Alpena, and WATZ Radio on Prentiss Street, downtown Alpena, during regular business hours.

Art in the Loft classes Friday, Saturday

Art in the Loft is hosting Corkscrews and Canvas for ages 21 and up, for $35 per person, from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday. Create your very own painted masterpiece while enjoying a glass of good wine, your favorite microbrew, or N/A beverage. Experience a fun Friday evening in a creative atmosphere as you sip on a drink and let your creative juices flow in this step-by-step painting class. The cost includes supplies and a Loft signature wine glass.

Mini Monsters Puppeteering Workshop, is from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, for $15 per student. Join Artistic Director and Playwright Mel Hatch Douglas of Melly Pop for a fun morning of theater, puppet creation, character design, and hands-on instruction, exploring the fun and creative world of puppeteering. This colorful and creative workshop is sure to entertain! Scholarships are available.
