COVID-safe Halloween ideas

In lieu of the traditional Halloween parties and trick-or-treating, here are some ideas to keep the spooky fun going during October while keeping a safe distance and avoiding large crowds.

Treasure hunt — Much like an Easter egg hunt, but with an autumnal twist, hide candy around the house or yard and let the kids run free finding the treats to fill their bags!

Scavenger hunt — Create creepy clues for each new hiding spot, with a big prize at the end, hidden in an inconspicuous place. The prize could be a plastic pumpkin filled with candy, or any kind of present with a Halloween theme.

Family drive — Load up the car and drive around town to see all the bright orange and colorful Halloween decorations that many people have placed throughout their yards.

Bingo drive add-on — For an added twist, create bingo cards with things to check off as you see them in the decorations as you are driving by. Some of the spaces could say “pumpkin,” “scarecrow,” “ghost,” “spider,” or any other spooky sightings.

Zoom stories — Log onto Zoom and create a meeting with your friends. But this is no ordinary meeting. Dress up as scary as you can, turn the lights down, and try to top your friends’ scary ghost stories!

Add your own ideas to this list for a safe and fun Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31.
