Thunder Bay Arts and Gallery is honored to present Ken Amelotte as their featured artist for the months of January and February.

An open house will be held for him from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the TBA Office/Gallery located at 127 W. Chisholm St., in Alpena.

Amelotte has had a passion for working with wood all his life. He has always had a wood lathe and turned wood when he could. It wasn’t until he retired in 2016 and bought a new wood lathe that he really made wood turning a priority. He considers wood turning a form of therapy in that he starts turning a project and gets lost in time making the beauty of the wood come to life.

Amelotte said he feels blessed that in Northern Michigan we have some of the most beautiful wood in the world, as well as many species that are great for turning. He feels truly blessed and grateful that Thunder Bay Arts Gallery has allowed him to be included in their group of distinguished artists. He finds it very rewarding to share with the general public the beauty of the wood that nature has blessed us with.

Friday’s open house is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
