Adopt a kitten Friday

Hair of the Dog Pet Grooming Salon is hosting a kitten adopt-a-thon from noon to 6 p.m. Friday. The salon is located in the same building as Kadrich Family Chiropractic and Better Living Massage, around the back side. This event is sponsored by Alpena County Animal Facility. Construction has begun on their new building and the target opening date is spring 2020.

Booze and Blooms Sat.

Booze and Blooms Fall Workshop will be from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday in the Thunder Bay Theatre lobby, 400 N. 2md Ave.

Come enjoy a special fall workshop with Falls Creek Produce & Flowers, and Mockingbird Cocktails, Alpena’s new cocktail service. In this hands-on workshop, you will create a beautiful fall centerpiece in a pottery vessel and two specialty cocktails. The cost of $55 includes all ingredients and supplies. For ages 21 and up.

Jenny Meyer benefit

Saturday in Ossineke

A benefit for Jenny (Prittie) Meyer will be held Saturday at Shin-Ga-Ba Shores Park across from Dinosaur Gardens in Ossineke. Meyer has stage IV lung cancer that has spread to her bones. She has a rare genetic mutation and is part of a U of M clinical study.

Saturday’s events will include a poker run/ride with registration at 11:30 a.m. for a noon start. A carnival opens at 2 p.m., and a corn hole tournament is at 3:30 p.m. A euchre tournament and a magician both start at 5:30 p.m. The event will also have live music, a 50/50 drawing, a silent auction, children’s games, a bounce house, Cooking for a Cause food booth, elephant ears, a live auction and a multi-item raffle.

St. Rose of Lima

hunter’s round-up Sat.

St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church will hold a chili cook-off and hunter’s round-up from noon to 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the church, 3433 Herron Road.

Tickets for chili, hot dogs, drinks and dessert are $5 per adult, and $3 per child 7 and younger. Raffle tickets are $10 each, and the drawing for 15 different prizes will be at 4:15 p.m. Tickets are available at St. Rose, Jimmy Garant’s, JR’s BP, A-1 Woods and Waters, Bob’s Gun Shop, and from church members. Prizes include a deer blind, deer mount, crossbow, chainsaw and a variety of firearms.

Eagles Aux. cancer walk

The Ossineke Eagles Auxiliary will host their Annual Cancer Walk at 2 p.m. Saturday. To walk, sponsor a walker or donate to this cause, call 989-471-5047 or drop by the Eagles at 6848 U.S.-23 South in Spruce, approximately one mile north of Chippewa Point Grocery.

Spruce Lutheran dinner

Spruce Lutheran Church will host a Harvest Dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, for $12 per person, $5 per child ages 5 to 12, and free for under 5.

Dinner includes baked or fried chicken, real mashed potatoes, gravy, homemade dressing, homegrown corn and squash, cranberries, rolls, drinks and homemade pies. The church is located three miles west of F-41 in Spruce.
