RCCT’s ‘The Lion King, Jr.’ starts tonight

Rogers City Community Theatre’s summer youth production, “The Lion King, Jr.,” starts tonight and runs through Sunday. Tonight through Saturday, shows are at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday’s performance is at 2 p.m.

The cast for “The Lion King, Jr.” includes: Rafiki — Aiden Monroe; Mufasa — Hannah Meharg; Sarabi — Bella Whitford; Zazu — Lexia Haske; Scar — Chloe Schultz; Young Simba — Elly Berryman; Adult Simba — Sidney Tulgestke; Young Nala — Natalie Crawford; Adult Nala — Izabelle Loughran; Sarafina — Nora LaLonde; Timon — Amelia Pritchard; Pumbaa — Brooke Crawford; Banzai — Hope Coolman; Shenzi — Olivia Reyes; Ed –Keri Coolman; Ensemble:​ Emerson Kleiber, Taylor Hefele, Jordyn Hefele, Blair Muckle, Gabbi Haske and Emma Getzmeyer-Ruppert.

This production is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International, and directed by Theresa Gibson, Trgmsw@gmail.com. Carrie Wilson is the music director for this play.

Adult tickets are $12, and student tickets are $6. For reservations, call 708-808-RCCT (7228). Performances are at Rogers City Theater, 257 N. Third St.

Polka concert tonight

Alpena City Band will perform its last concert of the summer season tonight at the Bayview Park Band Shell.

Tonight is polka night, with the free concert starting at 7:30 p.m.

Golden Agers meet Fri.

The Golden Agers had a great time watching the children play at the splash park when the group had its July meeting. No, the “old folks” never got into the water. They did enjoy hot dogs and other food.

Music was provided by Patty and Bob Algnon, and Patty joined the group.

The next meeting is at 1 p.m. on Friday, and the Cedar Panning place, located on the left side of the road heading north, at 4820 French Rd.

NEMI Relay For Life in Alpena this Saturday

Northeast Michigan’s Relay For Life starts Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Relay For Life offices, 318 W. Fletcher St. in Alpena.

Come walk along the Maritime Heritage Trail with other members of the community who have been fundraising to help fight cancer.

This year’s theme is Mardi Gras.

Registration starts at 9:30 a.m., the opening ceremony is at 11 a.m., lunch donated by the Masons will be served at noon, Zumba is at 7 p.m., Luminaria prep starts at 8:30 p.m., and the Luminaria lighting ceremony is at 10 p.m.

There will be themed survivor and caregiver laps on the hour, music, games and more. The event wraps up at 11 p.m.

Relay For Life of Northeast Michigan serves Alpena, Alcona, Presque Isle, Oscoda and Montmorency counties.
