Economy needs state to keep prevailing wage

Michigan’s economy is finally turning around. The construction industry is booming with new building and infrastructure projects around the state, and the demand for skilled workers is higher than ever.

Every day on the job we see the need for well-trained, highly skilled workers. The biggest challenge we face is attracting young people to the skilled trades in Michigan. The prevailing wage helps us attract young talent. Without it, workers will go elsewhere in search of better pay and benefits. The prevailing wage also levels the playing field for Michigan contractors.

We can’t afford to lose our young talent to other states, while non-Michigan companies swoop in to bid on our public projects. I urge our lawmakers in Lansing to stand up for the prevailing wage.
