Kolar to coach Alpena High boys track
ALPENA — Alpena High School announced Friday that Matt Kolar has been hired as the school’s new boys varsity track coach.
Kolar has been coaching at AHS for the last 12 years as well as teaching for the last 22 years at ACES, several Alpena Public Schools’ elementary schools and currently at Thunder Bay Junior High.
Last season, the Alpena boys track team had a pair of Big North Conference champions — hurdler Elijah Allen and sprinter Cooper Bright.
Bright set a new school record in the 400 dash just days before the finals and broke his own record at the finals, crossing the line in 49.76 seconds.
