PREP ROUNDUP: Strong second half leads Hillman to win

HILLMAN–The Hillman football team shook off two weeks of tough losses with a 26-16 win over Posen on Friday.

Hillman (2-2) led 6-0 at halftime, watched Posen’s Lucas Stone return the opening kickoff in the second half 78 yards for a touchdown and then scored 20 unanswered points to take control of the game.

“We finally came out and played the energy needed to get a win,” Hillman coach Cody Allen said. “Our seniors really stepped up their leadership and it payed off tonight.”

London Achatz had 29 carries for 144 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hillman and Sean Henigan added 111 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries. Sebastian Greene led Hillman’s defense with nine tackles and one sack.

Chase Dubie rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown for Posen (2-1) and Stone rushed for 75 yards. Defensively, Logan Timm led Alpena with 12 tackles and Stone and Ben Romel each had 11.

Posen hosts Hale next week and Hillman plays at Pellston.

Harbor Beach 37, Rogers City 0

ROGERS CITY–The Rogers City football team was kept off the scoreboard on Friday, losing to Harbor Beach, 37-0.

The Pirates connected on a 22-yard touchdown pass and conversion late in the first quarter and added a 53-yard touchdown pass before the end of the quarter to take a 14-0 lead.

Harbor Beach increased its lead to 30-0 by halftime.

Isaac Hein was 4-of-11 passing for Rogers City, throwing for 53 yards and two interceptions. He also had 45 rushing yards on eight carries.

Dillon Cook had 37 yards on nine carries for the Hurons and Clayton Henry had 27 yards on nine carries.

The Hurons are 2-2 on the season and are scheduled to play St. Ignace next week.

East Jordan 48, Alcona 22

LINCOLN–The Alcona football team held on early lead on Friday, but couldn’t hang on and dropped a home contest to East Jordan, 48-22.

Zach Stephenson rushed for 78 yards and a touchdown for Alcona; Gavin Walker added a score on the ground and Jacob Sytek added a touchdown reception from Stephenson.

Alcona’s defense was paced by the play of juniors Hunter Rigby and Walker who each had 13 tackles.

Alcona hosts Oscoda next week.
