PREP ROUNDUP: Ellis qualifies for state golf finals
MOUNT PLEASANT — Kennedy Ellis is headed back to the state finals.
The Alpena High School junior shot an 86 to finish third during a Division 2 girls golf regional on Tuesday at the Pohlcat in Mount Pleasant.
Ellis’ score was good enough to earn the top spot among individual qualifiers for the finals. She’ll compete at Forest Akers West in East Lansing next weekend.
Ellis qualified for the finals last season and finished 23rd overall.
Alpena shot a team score of 452 and tied for seventh as a team. Gianna Bolda shot a 108 for Alpena. Brianna Boyk shot a 120. Rebekah Carlson shot 138. And Mykenize Klimczak rounded out the team with a 142.
The Wildcats play again on Monday in Traverse City for the Big North Conference finals.

Alcona runners earn NSL honors
FAIRVIEW — Four Alcona runners earned all-North Star League honors on Tuesday during the league final at Fairview.
Carter Upper and Janae Kierzek earned second team honors and Sara Decker and Karen Sharboneau both earned first team honors.
In the middle school races, Cole Upper was first in the league and Darren Boyat was seventh.
Alcona competes in Tawas on Wednesday.
