ALPENA – On Tuesday, the Alpena Wildcats Girls Swim Team secured a major program milestone, defeating Alma for the first time in the past two seasons with a 110-60 victory at home.

The night began on a meaningful note as seniors Hailey Diemond, Ava Jacques, Kelsie Mousseau, and Kaelyn Roznowski opened the meet by singing the National Anthem and expressing their appreciation to family, coaches, teammates, and friends in attendance.

Head coach Jennifer Johnson praised the team’s dedication and growth throughout the season.

“Coaching this team has been fun and exciting. The girls are improving their times with hard work and focus at practice and it is showing continuously,” Johnson said.

Alpena delivered standout performances across nearly every event, led by Tryst Bukowiecki, who swam first in the 50-yard freestyle with a personal record and also took first in the 100-yard butterfly.

Brynn Beatty also claimed two wins, earning first in the 200-yard individual medley with a personal record and first in the 100-yard freestyle. Jacqulyn Frantz won the 200-yard freestyle with a personal best and placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke, while Elizabeth Rabbideau secured second in both the 50-yard freestyle and 100-yard backstroke with a personal record.

Olivia Sherwood contributed a win and personal record in the 500-yard freestyle and finished fourth in the 100-yard backstroke. Additional strong efforts came from Eva Trainer with third-place finishes and personal bests in both the 100-yard butterfly and 500-yard freestyle, along with key point contributions and personal bests from Hailey Diemond, Penelope Conboy, Haley Stenz, Kaelyn Roznowski and Bailee Diemond.

Relay dominance further solidified the win as Alpena took first and third in the 200-yard Medley Relay, swept first, second and third in the 200-yard Freestyle Relay, and claimed second, third and fifth in the closing 400-yard Freestyle Relay.

Riding strong momentum, the Wildcats will now travel to Standish on Tuesday for their final conference meet of the regular season, scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
