Wildcat swimmers fall 84-85 to Vikings
ALPENA — On Thursday, the Alpena High Wildcat Girls Swim Team faced the Cadillac Vikings and lost 84-85 at the Alpena Plaza Pool. Despite the close loss, many competitors placed well and had personal records in events.
“It was a tough loss,” Coach Jennifer Johnson said. “The team worked hard the entire meet with many personal bests and as a coach, that is all I can ask for. Practices will continue, focusing on technique with endurance, speed and finishing strong.”
Captain Elizabeth Rabbideau led the team, with 1st in the 50 Yard Freestyle and 2nd in the 100 Yard Backstroke, each event ending with a PR. In the 200 Yard Medley Relay, Elizabeth Rabbideau, Penelope Conboy, Tryst Bukowiecki and Haley Stenz had a PR. Hailey Diemond, Kaelyn Roznowski and Madelyn Farley PR’d in the 200 Yard Freestyle. Penelope Conboy PR’d in the 200 Yard IM. Elizabeth Rabbideau, Haley Stenz, Annette Fairchild, Arabella Nunez, Emma Winfield, Ava Jacques, and Nandi Bancroft all held PR’s in the 50 Freestyle. In the 100 Yard Butterfly, Jacquelyn Frantz had a PR. Haley Stenz, Hailey Diemond and Annette Fairchild all held PR’s in the 100 Yard Freestyle. In the 500 Yard Freestyle, Kaelyn Roznowski had a PR. In the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay, Ava Jacques, Arabella Nunez, Emma Winfield and Hailey Diemond had a PR. Olivia Sherwood and Elizabeth Rabbideau both had a PR in the 100 Backstroke.
The Wildcats will have a few days to rest before the next away meet at 5 p.m. on Sept. 18 against Gaylord.
