Support those who support public education

As a business owner and retired teacher, I want to voice my support for Gordon Snow and Renee Fisher for the Alpena Public Schools school board. Recently, they both attended the forum for candidates presented by the League of Women Voters, and I appreciate their open answers about why they want to serve and how they support public education. Only one candidate believes in democracy

This is an important reason to pick one presidential candidate over the other. One candidate believes in the principles of democracy, while the other does not. Democracy. One candidate told the truth during debate

I am writing in response to an article in The Alpena News entitled, “Tired of not seeing the truth.” I will try to be as respectful as possible. The author expressed sadness, disgust, frustration, and anger concerning having watched the presidential debate. She gave a false equivalency between the candidates. One who had lied over 35,000 times during his term in office as documented by the Washington Post (it may have been more but maybe they got tired of counting). Alpena Township’s fees are overly excessive

We moved to Alpena Township late in 2022 after being out of Michigan for nearly 44 years. We purchased a “fixer-upper” zoned an obscure “mixed use.” Several businesses down the road have 6-foot- and 8-foot-tall fences in front of the property. We thought a 6-foot cyclone fence would ensure our large guardian dog could not jump the fence. Donald Trump killing NOAA would hurt us

Be careful what you wish for, Alpena. Given all the Donald Trump signs in the area, I wonder if the proud owners of those signs realize that their candidate for president wanted to disband the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration during his presidency and has his sights on completing his goal if elected again. If in doubt, read Trump’s Project 2025 plan, which explicitly calls for getting rid of NOAA. Mr. Halleck, in the Oct. 28 Alpena News letter to the editor, you used pretty nasty language to describe President Donald Trump. You also said, “We must bring down the hate.” Your letter resembled the very essence of hate.
