Homeless shelter raises many, many concerns

I’m responding to your article, “Opening anyway.” I am frustrated by the lack of coverage of key facts surrounding this low-barrier shelter. This is the third shelter in our neighborhood, despite city ordinances prohibiting facilities within 2,500 feet of each other. The new shelter is only 815 feet from Sunrise Mission and 1,435 feet from a domestic abuse shelter, clustering three facilities within 2,250 feet — a situation zoning laws are meant to prevent to protect neighborhoods. Dear editor, As the election draws closer, we cannot ignore the growing impact of climate change on our communities. Hurricane Helene and now Hurricane Milton, along with dozens of wildfires this past summer — they’re all clear warning signs of a very real climate crisis. Fournier was wrong during 3rd Ave meeting

The Alpena County Road Commission meeting on Oct. 7, regarding the extension of 3rd Avenue to Tamarack Road, allowed many concerned citizens to respectfully present the pros and cons of this road project within the suggested five-minute timeframe. The Road Commission representatives listened intently to all the constructive alternate solutions to the crisis safety issues for access to Thunder Bay Junior High. The Saturday, Oct. 5, 2024 paper contained a letter from a writer from Alcona Township claiming that only one candidate for president believes in democracy. The writer alleges that Hillary Clinton swiftly conceded the 2016 election results. That’s a laugh as to this day she is claiming election fraud in her books and in her speeches. In 2016 Hillary paid (through the Democratic National Committee) for Chirstopher Steele’s fraudulent “Russia, Russia, Russia” dossier. Onaway school board race sees interference

Americans should be concerned when they hear that foreign governments, China, Russia, and Iran are attempting to influence or interfere with our national election. In other words, influence from outside the sovereignty of the United States of America. QUESTION: How is the above situation different from a local school board election, namely Onaway Area Community Schools, when other counties, Antrim and Montmorency, contribute funds to get partisan candidates elected to the Onaway’s Board of Education?
